epix

Epix Internet Services purchased by Citizens Communications Company. I've used epix in some form for 12 years. Hopefully the transition will NOT involve a change of the domain epix.net.

Revenge Against the Spiders

Publishers around the world are collectively putting their foot down against search engines in a new global initiative to regain control of their content.

The initiative, called Acap (Automated content access protocol), is intended to stop search engines aggregating content in breach of permission or copyright.

Ask.com Sucks as A Porn Search?

I don't know that as a fact, but it seems to me that this study could be saying this as much as anything else about online search practices. Who really knows? I'm not convinced the dynamics of the data allow for a determination that "porn searching" is down. A bigger question to me is...

Who uses Ask.com? Their usage is miniscule compared to the other search engines. And what is Jeeves doing now? My office is a mess.

Big Wireless Purchase

From Federal Computer Week:

The General Services Administration has launched a governmentwide procurement for wireless technology.

The procurement will cover the acquisition of cellular devices, services and related management of program requirements at defense and civilian agencies, according to a draft statement of objectives.

The document does not indicate how many devices might be acquired. But given that there are approximately 2.7 million federal employees, the number will be substantial, the document states.
