An Even More Special Christmas

Here's hoping Santa brings the Chicago Bears a win today, which will lock them up for both their division title and a first round bye in the NFL playoffs...

Could The Bears Win NFC Home Field Advantage for Playoffs?

The Chicago Bears, my NFL team of heart, has a chance to end up with the NFC's best record this season - and the homefield advantage that comes with that through the playoffs. Pretty amazing, all in all, but it's a credit to the defense, to Thomas Jones, and to Lovie Smith.

And to luck!

Anyways, with 4 games left, it will take at least 11 wins during the season to guarantee homefield advantage, and likely 12 or more. That limits the possibilities to the following teams (with their future opponents in parenthesis):

New York Giants (Eagles, Chiefs, Redskins, Raiders)
Dallas Cowboys (Chiefs, Redskins, Panthers, Rams)
Chicago Bears (Steelers, Falcons, Packers, Vikings)
Minnesota Vikings (Rams, Steelers, Ravens, Bears)
Carolina Panthers (Buccaneers, Saints, Cowboys, Falcons)
Tampa Bay Buccaneers (Carolina, Patriots, Falcons, Saints)
Seattle Seahawks (49ers, Titans, Colts, Packers)

I think the odds are pretty long for the Bears. The Seahawks play the Eagles on Monday night, a game I see the Seahawks winning, which will put them one game up on the competition for best record. 3 of the 4 teams left for the Seahawks are pathetic, although the Colts are the hardest game left for anyone.

In addition, I don't see the Bears running the table. The Steelers are getting desperate and the game is in Pittsburgh, I think that will be very tough for the Bears to win. I see the Bears beating the Falcons and Packers, and the game against the Vikings could be for the division if the Bears do less than that.

I'll be happy if the Bears beat the Giants out for homefield advantage. The Giants' schedule looks a little softer from here on out.
