When the power came back on after 8:30 last night, one of my "me and the kids" plans had been scuttled. We have rented "Duck Soup" by the Marx Brothers on NetFlix, and I'm planning on dropping it on them some night, and we'll sit together and watch it. Last night would have been perfect, except, well, you know, no power.

My experiment a few months ago, exposing them to Monty Python and the Holy Grail, wasn't the big hit I was hoping for, but they didn't hate it, either. The Marx Brothers are both more and less accessible to 12 and 8 year olds - true, the kids don't have to work through accents, but they have to work through 1933 technology standards, which I'm sure seems much more foreign to them. On the upside, it's short, at 68 minutes. So, for a few gags and silly songs, it might be something they can make it through and actually, oh, I don't know, say was okay.
Hopefully sometime this week we can have our "old-time movie night" and watch this, and see how it goes.
