Government Web Site Pricing

This seems a bit arbitrary to me, pricing government web sites based on the number of people in the community.

I'm not sure that's the fairest way to do the pricing, at least on the initial cost. I could see doing it for the monthly because a larger area may have more updates and bandwidth needs.

These guys just did the Cumberland County site, it looks good. Nothing that can't be replicated with a nice content management system though.

They do have a lot of clients. Pricing just seems odd to me, is all.

It is odd, especially for a government site. I guess there is still that section of the business that is trying to do an up-front pricing model. For a lot of non-technical people, this might be easier for them to digest (or maybe it turns them off completely). I try to just tell people what my bare minimum price is and explain what can make it can go up from there.

Government stuff often goes up for bid so I don't know if it necessarily makes sense to have an up-front price based on how big your area is.

One of the benefits of public pricing on a parameter a local government can easily figure out (such as population) is that the RFP can be structured in advance to include standards that are publicly provided.
