Rome Hotels

I'm looking for recommendations. We're looking for a nice hotel that won't eat up all our vacation money that is located within walking distance of some sites in Rome. Yes, Italy.

Maybe you should look into getting an apartment? I have friends who stayed very near the Coliseum for a week, at a more reasonable rate than a hotel. Plus you have a kitchen and can cook meals for yourself (with all the great Italian produce at the markets!)
