Good Points

Let's not make a hash of things.

Obama says something ignorant about Hillary attacking him "PERIOD-ically when she's feeling down" and it's off limits to comment. That's a cheap sexist shot. Go take a Midol, Hillary!

But its fine to nitpick every off-the-cuff remark by HRC and her campaign to death.

Toughen up, Obama supporters. It's going to get much worse in the fall.

That's exactly what I mean. It's not off limits. It's just that much of the commentary and the analysis is at least as bad as the perceived initial comment. Why? Because it's intended to insult both the candidate and supporters, both as sexists and as idiots. You should have at least a thought in your mind that what Obama said could have been meant differently. If not, you're being completely unfair. You've been on this Obama attack for at least a week on this blog, and I get it. You're for Clinton. Good for you. But try to be open-minded about it.

For the record - I'm still open to either candidate making the final sale. I think Obama has run a considerably better campaign than Clinton, and the results show. I think this is because Obama is a better campaigner than Clinton. The comments about HRC's staff here isn't about nitpicking, it's about who she chooses to speak for her. Mark Penn and Howard Wolfson get nitpicked, not because of Hillary Clinton, but because I don't like their corporate political approach. It's about them, not about her.

As for toughening up - look in the mirror.

The title of the article you linked was "Infighting is killing us"

So why is it fine for HRC to get thrashed every day by lefty blogs but the whining only starts when somebody points out an odd remark by Obama?

What's stupid about the analysis? I watched the whole clip. The context doesn't change it. You can debate the intent, but it definitely plays off a certain sexist stereotype. And Obama certainly took his time picking his words.

It's not going to affect my vote it all. I don't think Obama is anymore a sexist than Hillary is a racist.

But I object to criticism of Obama being painted as dangerous "infighting" while HRC can be pounded relentlessly.

I bet you won't see this comment on the front page of Kos.

There's never any comments from here on Kos. Who reads Kos? Maybe that's the problem, I'm trying to not spend much time at sites where there is constant attack on only one candidate, and I don't want this site to become one either.

For example - TalkLeft used to be a fine blog. IMHO, it no longer is. I think Big Tent Democrat is much too hysterical and thin-skinned to be a primary blogger on what should be a large community blog. He's completely over the top about his candidate against the other candidate. It's not my business to say what TalkLeft should be doing, but I know it curtails my reading of it considerably.

I just disagree, I think you're reading way more into the word periodically, and I think that "gets down" can mean the campaign situation. I've read the "dogwhistle" claims. Maybe this is a reaction to the "dogwhistle" claims made when Bill Clinton was blasted in South Carolina.

Infighting is okay if it is about policy. IF it's the sexist versus racist crap, well, yes, that's going to leave some problems in the party all the way past November. I've already seen posts and comments on both sides saying they won't vote for the other candidate in November if they win the nomination. Maybe those are empty threats, but they are seriously stupid empty threats.

We don't appear to be in any danger of become one-sided here! :)

I asked an uninvolved politically female friend to check out the Obama clip - without any mention of it being controversial. She called it a low blow. I asked her if she really thought he intended it that way. She said it was probably a dig that had come up in some previous conversation of his. Of course that's unscientific but check with your wife and see what she says.

I read Kos and Atrios and Talking Points and Matthew Yglesias but I don't watch cable news so it evens out.

I lost the Kos thread a long time ago, maybe I should just take it off the blogroll. Yglesias is an occasional read but tends to be into things I'm less interested in. Atrios and MTP are regular reads, and The Sideshow is a must as well. Of course, Avedon and Atrios cover a lot of the same territory, but she finds a lot of interesting items.

I'll email her the clip and see what she says. But there are female bloggers out there that see no problem with what he said, so I'm not quite sure what that really proves.
