Would a significant economic recession increase, or decrease, email spam?

I think it will increase spam, since a lot of it is of the "get rich quick" variety or "give us your money or perish with a tiny weinerschnitzle"...they will be hoping to capitlize on the morons who aren't really paying attention to what's going on the in the rest of the world or those who think that THEY can beat the system (such that it is...).

Thank goodness, most spam skips my inbox and I even ignore solicitations from well meaning friends.

I also wonder if, in a recession, more "legitimate" companies will jump into the spam sieve because of outsourcing and a hard economic push to the cheapest delivery mechanisms available.
