11.2

Stella! I bought a case of Stella Artois yesterday. It's probably my favorite hot weather brew. I don't get it that often because of the price. But they had a real nice deal down at Westy's - $24.99 a case instead of the usual $30.99.

When I got home, I poured up a tall pilsner glass full and was perplexed to come up almost an inch short of the rim! Turns out they were only 11.2 ounce bottles instead of the traditional twelve. When did this happen? No wonder the price was so sweet. Of course, good old Westy didn't highlight the smaller bottle size just the bucks off.

Actually I really don't mind trading off the .8 ounce for the six dollar savings. But can't say I care for the aesthetics of a short pour. Feels like having a chintzy bartender. If this is the coming trend, guess I'll have to get new pilsner glasses.

A bunch of imports are in 11.2 bottles now - even some of the English beers. It's kinda surprising from them because they have laws about short pours in pubs over there. Speaking of which, if you order a "pint" draft in your local bar, it will probably be in a 14 or 15 ounce glass. It's almost impossible to find 16 oz pint glassses anymore. Even if the bar wants to serve real pints it's tough to find pint glasses because almost nobody uses them.

Aye. I do so bartending at a chain joint and they took away our pint glasses and replaced them with these tall, skinny, crappy 14oz glasses that brake constantly. We pick them up and, suddenly, they suffer a clean fissure right at the base. There's never any shreds of glass, and the brake is always at the same angle. I hate it.

And after they introduced these glasses which give you less beer, then price of a "pint" never changed.

It's definitely better to goto a local bar where they'll serve you a pint that's actually in a pint glass.
